Moyne Health Services short-listed for major award

Moyne Health Services has been short-listed as a finalist for a major statewide award. The health service was yesterday informed it was a finalist in the 2013 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards which celebrate outstanding leadership, excellence and innovation. It was entered into the Premier’s Health Service of the Year (Rural Health Service) category.

Moyne Health Services CEO David Lee said he and his leadership team had been delighted with the news.

“We are lucky to have a team of dedicated and talented professionals who are genuinely committed to being the best they can,” Mr Lee said.

“These awards acknowledge excellence in our field and to be a finalist is a very good outcome, indeed.”

In its submission to the awards, Moyne Health Services pointed to the work it has done to build a capable and engaged workforce and its ongoing work to optimise the health of the regional community.

Mr Lee said the awards followed an outstanding accreditation assessment by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards earlier this year.

Mr Lee said Moyne Health Services had evolved over its 160-year history to become an integral part of the regional community.

“Every day, community members from Port Fairy, Koroit and surrounds have access to a range of health and allied health services through our programs.

“In all our work, we have an ethos of putting our patients and clients at the centre – they get to direct things and decide how they interact with Moyne Health Services.”

Moyne Health Services, which operates from campuses at Port Fairy and Koroit (the former Koroit Health Services Inc), incorporates a 15-bed acute care hospital, 30-bed nursing home and 52-bed hostel.

It employs 194 staff and last year admitted more than 500 people.

The health service is one of three finalists in the ‘Rural Health Service of the Year’ category, winners of which will be announced at a gala ceremony in Melbourne on November 20.

Other finalists in the category include the East Wimmera Health Service and Rochester and Elmore District Health Service.
