Moyne Health Services (MHS) hosted a ‘Health and Wellbeing’ day as part of the 2014 Moyneyana festival program. The event supported by the Moyneyana festival committee was well attended by locals and holiday makers.

People made the most of the activities on offer, participating in a brisk walk and lesson in tai chi to start the day. Julieanne and Mary from MHS were kept busy conducting Diabetes Risk Assessments, which included blood pressure monitoring. The mobile hearing van also proved to be a strong drawcard with many of the public taking advantage of the free hearing screening. Several referrals were made as part of these two events, highlighting the need for people make regular contact with their local health care provider.

A crowd gathered to listen to an insightful and informative talk from MHS community dietician Marian Cornett. Marian explained that people should be encouraged to increase the variety of foods in their diet, aiming for 30 types per day, rather than focussing on what foods to leave out or limit. Children were also kept happily entertained at the colouring in station.

Special thanks must be given to all Moyne Health Services staff involved as well as members of the Moyneyana committee who contributed to making the day such a success.
