Campaign for Moyne Health Services up and going

A CAMPAIGN to raise half a million dollars for the fit-out of a urgent care unit at Moyne Health Services (MHS) has hit the ground running. The Port Fairy Folk Festival and Woody’s Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay have contributed to the appeal for the internal works at MHS’ Port Fairy campus. The folk festival has pitched in $100,000 while Murray to Moyne has come up with $65,000.
The donation from the folk festival comes on the top of the $750,000 it gave for the building of the community health centre in Port Fairy, which was opened in February last year.
Festival president John Young said the latest contribution from his organisation was well directed. “We always put the support of health care at the top of our list when distributing our community funds,” Mr Young said.
“We are very fortunate to have such a strong health service in Port Fairy, it is central to the sustainability of our community. “There has been a long-term connection between Moyne Health Services and the festival and we will look to continue that where and when we can into the future.”
In April, 800 riders across 53 teams from Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, rode from one end of the state to the other in the 32nd Murray to Moyne. This hard work on the road helped raise $600,000 for health services across the three states.
The Murray to Moyne committee was able to gather $65,000 from the event, which it has handed over to MHS management.
Murray to Moyne committee president John Clue said this was a pleasing result. “The purpose of the Murray to Moyne is to raise money for Moyne Health Services,” Mr Clue said.
“This money is not just to go into general administration, it is for the development and improvement of the service for the benefit of the community and the district.
“Being able to give $65,000 is terrific and a lot of hard work was put in to achieve that total. “That work was not just from the committee, but also from other volunteers that helped make the Murray to Moyne happen.
“It is a big event to run so we thank everyone that came on board and helped out in any way they were able to.”
